You’re standing in the dress shop, but you have absolutely no idea which dress to buy. They’re all so pretty, and you could imagine yourself getting married in each and every one. So how do you choose? And how do you make sure it is right on your day?
Make a plan BEFORE you go to the dress shop! Have an idea of the kind of dress you want. Do you like lace? Do you want a splash of colour? Do you like a particular designer? These are all things you should consider before you step into a shop, or meet with a designer. Google is your best friend in this stage of dress shopping. Google every single phrase you can think of, and you’ll be able to get an idea of what you do and don’t like.
Have a list. Write down your dress musts, and your dislikes. It will give the dress shop employees an idea of what you want. Take some screenshots of the dresses you found online to give you a visual aid in the actual shop.
Consider your budget. Don’t go to the outrageously priced shop in the city, if you know you want a wedding with a smaller budget. Your budget will help you rule out certain dresses, and will help narrow down to your dream dress.
Take some friends! Make it a girls outing – your Mum, your mother in law, your sister, your best friend, your cousin. Invite them all! It’s nice to get other people’s opinions, and have some company when making this big decision.
Start early. Don’t leave your dress shopping to the last second; you’ll end up a stressed mess. Instead, start as early as possible. This gives you time to find the perfect dress, to pay it off, and to get it to fit you flawlessly. It also means you will feel better about leaving the bridal shop, after trying on half a dozen dresses, and none of them feeling right.
Tell a little fib. We’ve all heard the horror stories of the dress not fitting right on the day, or being available for pick up too late, so tell the designer or the shop that your wedding is two weeks before the actual date. A little fib to them may just save you from repeating the stories!
The dress is so important, and you don’t want to regret your choice, so make sure you know what you want and figure out what you can afford. Whatever you choose though, I’m sure you’ll look great and you’ll blow your partners mind when they see you!
